FAQ

Wedding budget FAQ

The questions couples actually ask, answered plainly. Estimates are labeled estimates.

How much does a wedding cost in 2026?

One widely reported 2026 figure is a $34,200 average (pix.wedding, 2026; methodology not independently verified here). Costs vary enormously by region, guest count and venue, so treat averages as context, not a target. Our planner starts from your total budget, not from an average.

How should I split my wedding budget?

Published cost studies cluster around a consistent pattern. VowBudget starts from these midpoints: Venue & rentals 32%, Catering & drinks 28%, Photography & video 9%, Attire & beauty 6%, Flowers & decor 8%, Entertainment & music 6%, Planner 4%, Everything else 7%. You can drag any category and the plan rebalances.

Can I plan a wedding under $10,000?

Yes. Small weddings under $10k usually concentrate spending on venue, food and photography and cut or shrink everything else. Read our small-wedding guide for the order of cuts.

Are these numbers financial advice?

No. The percentages are heuristics from published wedding-cost studies, clearly labeled as estimates. Every real wedding is different. Use the plan as a starting point and verify quotes with real vendors.

Do I need an account to use the planner?

No. The planner runs entirely in your browser. Your numbers never leave your device unless you choose to share the link.

How do I share my plan with my partner or family?

Press "Copy plan link" after building a plan. The link encodes your budget, guest count and any adjustments you made. Anyone who opens it sees the same plan.

What if we are already over budget?

Enter what you have already spent as adjustments in the category rows. The header shows how much you are over, and the plan flags categories that sit far from the typical split so you can see where to pull back.

Where do the percentage defaults come from?

They are midpoint estimates distilled from publicly reported wedding-cost studies (Zola and The Knot among them, 2024-2026). Sources are listed on the About page.

Does VowBudget charge anything?

No. The planner is free, there is no account, and the site has no paid services or vendor payments.
